From Louxor to Paris: The Incredible Journey of the Luxor Obelisk

In 1830, France received an extraordinary gift: one of the obelisks from the Temple of Luxor. But a major challenge stood in the way: how could a monument over 3,000 years old, standing 23 meters high and weighing 230 tons, be transported all the way to Paris?

Extracting, transporting, and finally erecting this immense monolith in the heart of the French capital was a colossal undertaking—one that would become one of the greatest engineering achievements of the 19th century.

Through remarkable reconstructions and documents preserved for nearly two centuries, this documentary retraces, step by step, the incredible odyssey of the obelisk, from Luxor to the Place de la Concorde.
